Case Study

San Francisco Bar Pilots Association/Bay Area Oil Spill

The Task

The Cosco Busan, a 900-foot long freighter departing from the Port of Oakland, struck one of the towers of the Bay Bridge causing some of the vessel’s fuel tanks to rupture, spilling some 58,000 gallons of bunker fuel into the San Francisco Bay.

The Solution

Singer Associates was retained immediately to promote and protect the integrity of the San Francisco Bar Pilots. The Agency took command and began demonstrating to the media and the public that the San Francisco Bar Pilots work under the highest professional standards possible for ship handling, hold an impressive safety record and have been vigilant stewards of the environment in Northern California.
