Case Study

Washington Hospital Healthcare System

The Task

Washington Hospital Healthcare System (WHHS) in Silicon Valley asked for assistance from Singer Associates to help execute its plan, with embedded personnel from the agency, to help the hospital support its 320,000 healthcare district residents for the introduction of a new $86 million electronic health record system. Our work earned us a spot as finalist in the PRWeek Awards 2014 for Internal Communications Campaign of the Year.

The Solution

“WeCare,” the name of WHHS’ project, replaced each department’s unique approach to patient care and united the entire organization – the hospital and 25 outpatient clinics that provide a comprehensive range of medical services – under a single, unified electronic health record that would allow doctors, nurses and staff to deliver care to patients as a team effort, no matter where they are on the campus. We also managed external communications and marketing for the project to patients and the community.

We presented regular updates at internal meetings, developed an Intranet site, regular newsletter and informational training videos, designed signage, drafted guides and talking points, and helped run informational fairs. We also helped craft advertisements and other communications for the community.

WHHS is one of the leading district hospitals in the country, consistently ranking highly in patient safety, innovation and community engagement. It is governed by an elected board of directors from six cities, and bears a unique responsibility to engage with the community and respond to its healthcare needs. Our strategy embraced these components.
