Rory J. O’Connor is a veteran communicator who brings nearly four decades of experience to the creation of written materials, with expertise spanning a range of key issues, industries, subjects, and audiences.
Rory creates winning content that motivates audiences, including messaging and narratives, brand journalism stories, bylined and contributed articles, op-eds, social media posts, executive speeches and presentations, white papers, and website copy.
His expertise spans many of today’s most innovative and important industries and issues, including energy (utilities and renewable/green tech); land use and development; pharmaceuticals and biotech; healthcare; information technology financial services; and hospitality. He is an experienced counselor in crisis management, litigation support, and public policy.
Rory spent the first 21 years of his career as a journalist, including a decade as a reporter and columnist for the San Jose Mercury News, where he shared a Pulitzer Prize with the newsroom staff for coverage of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. He shifted to corporate communications in 2001, serving as vice president for a private woman-owned PR agency in Washington, D.C., and then joining Fleishman Hillard’s San Francisco office, where he was Senior Vice President, Partner and Chief Storyteller.
